Federal Express Entry Program
Individuals, families and investors worldwide can immigrate to Canada very quickly, usually within a few months, through the Express Entry program. This program was introduced in 2015 and has become the main entry method for economic immigration into Canada.
Express Entry is administered by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which reviews the applications received through Canada’s federal economic immigration programs. Candidates are invited to apply based on human capital factors including skills and experience, and whether they already have a job offer.
How it works
First, applicants must be eligible under one of these federal economic immigration programs –
- Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC)
Some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are streamlined through Express Entry, but candidates must be eligible under one of these threefederalprograms in order to enter Canada’s Federal Express Entry applicant pool.
Eligible applicants can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI), and will receive a rating score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Applicants are rated with a score up to 1,200 regarding their suitability for immigration to Canada.
The score is used as a cut-off point during draws from the Express Entry candidate pool. Xenoom works with clients to raise CRS scores and rankings, in order to increase eligibility for the Express Entry program.

Qualifying for a permanent visa
Candidates’ CRS scores are based on factors including educational history, language skills, work history, and whether the candidate has already received a qualifying job offer or provincial nomination in Canada. Candidates who have a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or other qualifying job offer are currently eligible for either 50 or 200 additional points for the CRS scoring.
Provincial nominees can receive 600 bonus points. It’s important to understand these bonus points may vary each year according to Canadian government’s immigration quotas. Candidates who haven’t yet received a qualifying job offer or provincial nomination may register in the Canada Job Bank.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) makes Express Entry decisions regularly, usually every few weeks. Candidates who score above a certain ranking are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence online, and are given 60 days to submit a complete application with all supporting documentation.
Candidates who haven’t yet been selected can improve their Express Entry profiles with higher scores through updated information. This might include better language scores, higher educational credentials, more work experience, a qualifying job offer or provincial nomination.
